The Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Winant) to the Secretary of State

4909. With reference to our telegram number 4820, August 28, 8 p.m., we understand from the Foreign Office that Eden did suggest to General de Gaulle that it would be well for him to return to London to talk over pending problems but that de Gaulle does not seem willing to come back just now. De Gaulle merely states that there are a number of matters pending which require his presence in the Near East.
