Editorial Note

On February 14 and 23, Assistant Secretary Rusk discussed United States policy with regard to China with Canadian Ambassador Hume Wrong. No record of either conversation has been found in the Department of State files; Wrong’s reports of the conversations, sent in personal letters to Canadian Secretary of State for External Affairs Lester B. Pearson, are quoted in part in Mike: The Memoirs of the Right Honourable Lester B. Pearson, Volume 2: 1948–1957, edited by John A. Munro and Alex I. Inglis (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1973), pages 175–179.
