The Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Winant) to the Secretary of State

4944. In talking with Mr. Eden this morning he told me that he hoped our representative at Beirut in talking with General de Gaulle would discourage him in an anti-British policy in Syria and the Lebanon.

Mr. Eden also said that he understood Wadsworth66 is being sent to Beirut which he very much approved and asked me if I would inquire how soon Wadsworth would reach his destination.
