724.3415/1881: Telegram
The Chargé in Brazil (Thurston) to the Secretary of State
[Received 11:25 a.m.]
70. Department’s 52, July 26, 5 p.m.17 The Minister for Foreign Affairs read to me last evening his recent telegraph instructions to the Brazilian representatives at Washington, Buenos Aires, Asunción and La Paz, the tenor of which would indicate that Brazil is supporting the Washington conference. The telegrams to Buenos Aires, Asunción and La Paz quoted Lima e Silva as having received intimations that any other action would be resented by the neutrals.
Dr. Mello Franco expressed the fear that further conflicts in the Chaco are imminent.
