File No. 812.00/3548.
The American Consul at Chihuahua to the Secretary of State.
Chihuahua, April 9, 1912—10 p.m.
Military authorities have confiscated a large lot of private mail sent by American passenger last night. There is every reason to believe my letter to the Consul at Paso del Norte, containing telegram [Page 778] to the Department, was included. Said telegram reported the expected shooting of American named Fountaine1 at Parral this morning. Protested against the act last night and instructed consular agent protest before the military authorities Parral. The newspapers say that Fountaine was shot 5 this morning notwithstanding.
Attitude rebel authorities insolent toward this office and Americans generally.
- Elsewhere spelled Fountain.↩
