Sir: Referring to your telegraphic instruction in cipher received on the 7th instant and reading as follows:
Eleven hundred fifty-one dollars additional received from American Red Cross for transfer of Italian Red Cross account relief sufferers eruption Mouth Vesuvius. Draw on Secretary of State as before and forward receipt Italian Red Cross.

and to my dispatch No. 203, of the 12th instant, acknowledging the same, I have now the honor to inclose herewith a copy with translation, of a note received from the minister of foreign affairs expressing the gratification of the Italian Government for this additional contribution and informing me that the amount in question has been duly transmitted to the president of the Italian Eed Cross. The receipt from that association will be immediately forwarded to you upon its receipt.
