Mr. Minister: I had the honor of receiving
the letter dated yesterday, in which you informed me of the decease
of Mr. John Hay, Secretary of State of the United States of
America.
I wish to express to you how greatly the King’s Government
sympathizes in the loss which your country has just sustained by the
death of this eminent statesman, with whom the representatives of
the King in Washington have always had such excellent relations.
