Mexico, June 7, 1872. (Received June 28.)
Sir: The only military events I have to record since my last general dispatch are the capture of Monterey, on the 31st ultimo, and the defeat of the rebel generals Guerra and Marquez, near the city of Durango, about the same date. Both events are as yet known only by brief telegraphic dispatches, but it seems that the capture of Monterey was preceded by a hard-fought battle, in which a portion of the army of General Corella was routed, and that nothing is certainly known of the whereabouts of that general.
I am, &c.,
THOMAS H. NELSON.
