Sir: I have the honor to inclose herewith a copy and translation (A and B) of a prolongation of the Tehuantepec Railway and Canal concession, extending its time for three years longer, which was granted to the Tehuantepec company by the Mexican congress on the 22d of May last.

The Citizen President of the republic has been pleased to address me the following decree:

Benito Juarez, constitutional President of the United States of Mexico, to the inhabitants thereof: Know ye—

That the Congress of the Union has decreed as follows:

The concessions granted oh the 2d of January, 1869, and the 14th of December, 1870, the former for the construction and management of a railroad, and the latter for the construction of a canal, navigable from ocean to ocean, across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, are hereby renewed.

The periods of time mentioned in the former shall he counted from the 2d of January of the present year.
