1097. From Johnson.
Following from [text not declassified] correspondent, from source in CHICOM Embassy in East Germany: Wang Ping-nan under instructions continue Geneva talks as long as necessary; CHICOMS willing continue talks for possibly a year. According to source, at last meeting Wang informed Johnson that Peiping prepared negotiate with Chiang [Typeset Page 488] Kai-shek, willing grant Taiwan “autonomous area” status under Chiang for a period of time.
