The Ambassador in Korea (Muccio) to the Secretary of State

Seoul, August 8, 1949—noon.

990. According information just received from Chinhae, Generalissimo took off this morning about 10:30 presumably to return Formosa. Text joint communiqué issued on termination conversations being telegraphed separately.1

President and Mrs. Rhee expected return Seoul Tuesday morning.
