2074. Dept does not wish to hinder Greek Govt in taking necessary steps to check Communist supporters among non-Communist Left groups. (London tel 155 to Athens1 para 3). However, you may suggest advantages to be derived from separating non-Communist Left from KKE now that latter has taken open stand in rebellion and may point out desirability of securing public condemnation of Markos group by as many Greek political elements as possible.
