Editorial Note
In a statement issued to the press on October 11, 1947, the Department of State took note of the end of proceedings of the Austrian Treaty Commission, reviewed briefly the establishment, terms of reference, and activities of the Commission, and concluded with an expression of regret over the undue delay in reaching agreement on the outstanding points of difference in the Austrian treaty. The statement also reaffirmed the hope of the United States of obtaining an Austrian treaty at the earliest possible date on the basis of the work done by the Commission and the intention of the United States to make every effort at the forthcoming meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers in London to resolve the remaining outstanding issues regarding the treaty.
