1312. For Benton from Smith. Lozovski informed me by letter dated April 23 that Central Organization for Delivery of Newspapers and Magazines throughout USSR (Soyuzpechat) will undertake distribution of 50,000 copies of illustrated magazine America beginning June 1 this year. Hope this news, which means America can operate without loss, will persuade Congress to permit continuance of magazine.88

- A Department of State press release of August 30, 1946, announced the permission for this increase in circulation at 10 rubles a copy; Department of State Bulletin, September 15, 1946, pp. 513–514. The Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives had temporarily favored discontinuance of the magazine because of its limited distribution and cost of publication.↩
