The Minister in Iran (Dreyfus) to the Secretary of State

275. My 265, August 21. Iranian Government has agreed to detention of the suspects in British controlled area at Sultanabad. Prime Minister informs me he obtained consent of Majlis to this procedure in secret session Saturday by assuming full and personal responsibility. It is understood British Foreign Office supported Tehran Legation in demanding detention at Sultanabad so that Iranians had no alternative in end but to accept. This is last remaining point at issue in this dispute and it is hoped that at least a temporary solution has been reached. Whatever the merits of the case there is no doubt it has been very harmful to British-Iranian relations.
