547. Reported Japanese intention to occupy Shanghai Settlement.
The Foreign Office spokesman informed press representatives today that the Shanghai correspondent in attributing to General Matsui the statement that Japan might occupy the International Settlement had not correctly quoted the General. The spokesman stated that Japan has no intention of taking over the Settlement.
