204. 1. Press gives wide publicity to an interview yesterday between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chinese Ambassador. Arita is said to have emphasized the importance of the present negotiations for adjusting Sino-Japanese relations and to have expressed the conviction that Japan’s true intentions would become known when Kawagoe meets Chiang Kai Shek.
2. There has been no recent allusion in press to any interview on Sino-Japanese relations by the Foreign Office with any other diplomatic representative.
3. Press states that Prime Minister left yesterday for Hokkaido to report developments in Sino-Japanese situation to the Throne.
