The Secretary of State to the Chargé in Liberia (Reber)

108. The British Ambassador called on November 29 and stated that his Government was concerned over the present situation in Liberia and desired to cooperate. He was informed that this Government naturally welcomed added pressure by the British Government in favor of the execution of Liberian reforms. The Ambassador [Page 378] was shown a copy of the Secretary’s memorandum of November 17, the full text of which has just been transmitted to you by cable, and also informed that this Government had recently agreed to the League’s suggestion that publication of the report of the International Commission be made simultaneously in Washington and Geneva on January 10, next.

You may inform your British colleague and, if you deem it necessary, discuss the situation along the lines of paragraph one of your telegram No. 144, October 16, noon, and the Department’s reply No. 89, October 17, 7 p.m.
