The Secretary of State to the Minister in China (Schurman)
Washington, January 25,
1922—7 p.m.
15. Your No. 23 January 24th 4 p.m. received January 24th 1 p.m. Let me assure you of my appreciation of your handling this matter.
Chinese Minister having sought such an interview I took him this afternoon to see the President who said to him that he considered it would be a colossal blunder in statecraft if China were not to take advantage of the opportunity now offered her for the settlement of the Shantung question as the alternative might involve a risk of losing the Province.
