494. On the resumption of Boxer indemnity payments this month I advise retained portion be handled as it was before December 1917 when payments were deferred. Same course might be followed with remitted portion also but I consider present method of handling remitted portion preferable in view of guarantees it affords. Please instruct by telegraph so I may notify Foreign Office.
