Sir: The Government has pardoned 44 political prisoners connected with the recent uprising. All of these are Hawaiians or half-castes. [Page 865] Of these, the principal are Jonah C. Kalanianaole (“Prince Cupid”); Carl Widemann, son of Hon. H. A. Widemann, late commissioner to Washington of the ex-Queen, and the four Lane brothers.
