Resolutions unanimously passed by the
Honolulu Chamber of Commerce.
Whereas the Hawaiian nation is under the highest obligation to
the United States Government, to the State of California, to the
corporation of San Francisco, and to the citizens of said State
and city, for their truly royal welcome and entertainment of His
Majesty King Kalakaua, and for the distinguished feelings of
friendship and esteem exhibited toward him and the Hawaiian
people in their tender and sympathetic care of the King during
his recent illness, and in the funeral obsequies held in San
Francisco, and in returning His Majesty’s remains to its home;
and
Whereas a like obligation has been incurred to Rear-Admiral
George Brown and his staff, and to the officers and crew of the
U. S. S. Charleston for their unfailing
care and attention to the King in his recent visit to
California, and in the return of his remains to Hawaii:
Therefore be it
Resolved, That the Honolulu Chamber of
Commerce joins with all others in this country in expressions of
the most cordial thanks to the United States Government, to the
State of California, to the corporation of San Francisco, and to
the citizens of said State and city for their courteous
attentions to His Majesty the King during his recent visit and
for the like respectful and tender care of the dead King’s
remains, and
Resolved, That we likewise tender to
Real-Admiral George Brown and his staff and to the officers and
crew of the U. S. S. Charleston the
heartfelt thanks of this association for the courteous
attentions paid to His Majesty during his visit to the Pacific
coast and in the honorable attentions paid to his remains upon
their return to the land of his birth.
Resolved, That an engrossed copy of the
above preamble and resolutions be forwarded to the Secretary of
State of the United States, to the governor of the State of
California, to the mayor of the city of San Francisco, to
Rear-Admiral George Brown and Captain Remy, commanding U. S. S.
Charleston.
Resolved, That the above preamble and
resolutions be spread upon the records of this Chamber of
Commerce and that the same be published in the newspapers of
this place.
