No. 204.
Mr. Wing to Mr. Fish.

No. 334.]

Sir: I am gratified to ascertain that the removal of all customs dues from American machinery is likely to prove a source of considerable revenue to our countrymen engaged in that line of business, who can now furnish such articles to Ecuadorian purchasers at cheaper rates than their European competitors.

I am already aware of several very large orders that will go forward to New York at an early day; and I have no doubt that these will be largely increased in the course of the coming year, owing to the great demand that is arising in all parts of this country for machinery of all classes.

As I expected, this action on the part of this government has created considerable feeling in certain European quarters.

I have, &c.,

RUMSEY WING.
