Sir: I inclose herewith a copy of a note which
I have to-day addressed to the Mexican government, demanding, in
pursuance of the instructions contained in your No. 273, of the 1st
instant, the prompt return of Abraham Gonzales, kidnaped in Texas by one
Pedro A. Valdes, and the punishment of the perpetrator of that
outrage.

Sir: The Government of the United States
has been informed by its commercial agent at Piedras Negras, in
Coahuila, that one Pedro A. Valdes, calling himself a colonel, and
understood to be an officer in the military service of Mexico, had
organized upon American soil a party of men with whom he invaded
that State, having previously kidnaped in Texas one Abraham
Gonzales, whom he carried with him into Mexico.
I am instructed to lose no time in laying this fact before the
government of Mexico, not doubting that your excellency will cause
the speediest measures to be taken for the release of the said
Gonzalez, and for making the kidnaper Valdes sensible of the
displeasure of his government.
