177. Editorial Note
Following the Heads of Government meeting at 10 a.m. (see Document 176), President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Macmillan visited the British Embassy, Barnes la Coquette, where the President had lived when he was the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe, and finally, about 1 p.m., the President returned to the U.S. Embassy. According to Bohlen, he and some other members of the U.S. Delegation then had dinner with the President, after which they discussed the prospects of the conference. For Bohlen’s account of this discussion, see Bohlen, Witness to History, pages 468–469. No other record of this discussion has been found although the dinner (called a lunch) is mentioned in Eisenhower, Strictly Personal, page 277.
