264. Editorial Note
In response to the Government of Japan’s willingness to receive a U.S. mission to discuss the wool textile problem (see Document 263), the Department of State proposed that discussions between the United States and Japan on wool textile exports be held in Tokyo during the week of May 17. (Telegram 2604, April 12; Department of State, Central Files, INCO–WOOL 17, US–JAPAN) The Japanese Government responded by proposing a meeting for the week of June 4 or 14. (Telegram 3314 from Tokyo, April 16; ibid.) Both parties then agreed to schedule the meeting for June 7 and 8. (Telegram 3707 from Tokyo, May 13; ibid.)

Christopher, Consultant to the Department of State; Stanley Nehmer, Director of the Office of International Resources in the Bureau of Economic Affairs; Laurence C. Vass, Minister Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs; James S. Love, Jr., Special Assistant to the Secretary of Commerce; Herbert N. Blackman, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for International Affairs; and Harald B. Malmgren, senior economist in the Office of the Special Representative for Trade Negotiations.
