183. Editorial Note
On October 21, 1961, Maxwell Taylor and some members of his mission, accompanied by representatives of the Military Assistance Advisory Group, Embassy staff, and Vietnamese officials, left Saigon for a 2-day tour of the countryside. In his memoirs, Taylor wrote that one of the days was spent in the north near the demilitarized zone and the other flying over the Mekong Delta. (Taylor, andSwords and Plowshares, page 239) Although there are passing references to this trip in other documents in this chapter, no other documentation on the trip has been found.
