Memorandum of Luncheon Conversation with the President1

We discussed the position vis-à-vis Communist China, particularly with reference to the imprisonment of the United States flyers. The President reaffirmed his support of the position which I had taken in my speech the night before,2 after communicating with him through Hagerty at Augusta.

The President felt that we should push this matter vigorously in the United Nations and asked me to talk to Ambassador Lodge. I said this accorded very much with my own thinking.

[Here follows discussion of unrelated matters.]
