498. Re Embtel 422.² VD chief Amer Div Fon Ministry advises informal mtg with Egypt MAC rep Gohar took place Thursday September 25 with Col Ramati representing IG pursuant to arrangement described in ref tel. IG rep made specific suggestion that special mtg be arranged on higher level to discuss (1) broadening scope of present anti-infiltration agreement and (2) resolving questions of mutual interest relating to shipping. Egypt’s rep said he wld consult superiors and report result. IG hopes discussion of point (1) may lead to gen non-aggression agreement; and as to point (2) it proposes cover all shipping matters including territorial waters, fishing rights and possibly passage of shipping through Suez Canal (see Embtels 467 and 497).³
