Be Italian Membership: Italian observer Guidotti on instructions saw Gross this morning and voiced Italian Govt’s “keen disappointment” that Guidotti had been told by Hickerson we had no suggestions to offer re Italian membership beyond what Guidotti called, “undoubtedly useless”, step of renewed SC discussion membership question. He said in tripartite declaration we had indicated we [Page 365] would take all steps possible to aid Italy and we should do just that even if it meant “stretching the charter a little”.
