4624. Re Embtel 4623. In later conversation with Dixon¹ Embassy officer pressed point 2 in Embtel under reference, questioning whether British position on ECAFE’s competence as distinguished from its position on Chinese Communist representation had changed since last year. Dixon promised to review matter again but without holding out much hope of meeting US view. In conversation with British, British have indicated that they can not understand great importance which we attach this question as they regard it as technical issue on which we could agree to disagree without serious repercussions.
