The Secretary of State to the United States Representative at the United Nations (Austin)

No. 87

The Secretary of State requests the United States Representative to the United Nations to transmit the enclosed check in the amount of $6,200,000 to the Secretary General of the United Nations as a contribution by the United States to the United Nations for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

A receipt from the United Nations for the enclosed check should be transmitted to the Department of State by the United States Mission to the United Nations. It is also requested that the United States Mission to the United Nations acknowledge receipt of the enclosure.1

  1. The Department of State had informed Ambassador Blandford on September 13 that further sums would become available for Relief and Works Agency activities in late September, that it wished to prevent any feeling of letdown in PRA operations but that it was disappointed at the continued magnitude of relief costs.
