The Ambassador in Argentina (Armour) to the Secretary of State

Buenos Aires, February 8, 1944.

370. Government press bureau announces detention this afternoon of German Military Attaché Friedrich Wolf and Japanese Naval Attaché Rear Admiral Katsumi Yukishita as real leaders of Axis espionage in Argentina. Announcement states that Federal Police have gathered positive proof of Attachés’ guilt as well as voluminous evidence of Axis espionage activities which will soon be made public. Yukishita’s assistant mentioned as implicated but no further reference made to him. Wolf and Yukishita held incommunicado in their homes.
