The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Colombia (Lane)
470. Reference Embassy’s telegram 642 April 4. Inter-American Coffee Board at April 4 meeting extended to May 31, 1944 the period for approval of extension of Coffee Agreement for 1944–45 quota year. Colombian Embassy’s memorandum quoted in Department’s telegram 441 April 3 was read at meeting at Camargo’s request. Discussion of quota increases indicated support for increases from practically all producing countries except Brazil. Some of the comments made by Camargo and Cáceres11 indicated possible dissatisfaction with basic quotas of Colombia and Honduras as set up in original agreement. The meeting was adjourned until April 13, 1944. Quotas may be increased at that time.
