1800. 1. We are now informed by a member that PPC investigation party expects to leave next week for Yenan. (Retel 1781, November 4, 5 p.m.) Members of party are said to feel that hopes of Kmt–CCP55a [Page 672] settlement are small but are nevertheless worth exploring. We are of opinion that mission is unlikely to result in any concrete accomplishment.
2. Local office of CCP newspaper was reportedly raided by local authorities [on] 4th and quantity of Communist literature seized.
3. According to local representative of independent guerilla group operating in Shantung (Redes 072 [3072], October 1856), Communist Eighth Route and New Fourth Armies have recently launched military attacks on independent guerilla areas in Shantung and North Kiangsu in endeavor to liquidate latter.
