The British Ambassador (Halifax) to the Secretary of State

Sir: I have the honour to inform you, with reference to my note number 473 of August 1st., under instructions from His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, that Sir Alexander Cadogan, G.C.M.G., K.C.B., Permanent Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to leave Washington shortly for the United Kingdom, accompanied by Sir William Malkin, G.C.M.G., C.B., K.G., Mr. Peter Loxley, Colonel Capel Dunn, Mr. A. H. Poynton, and Mr. Paul Falla.

After their departure the Delegation to continue talks with the United States and Chinese Delegations57 will consist of the following, with myself in charge:58

  2. The British Ambassador informed the Secretary of State on September 28 and 30 of the two following additions to the list of United Kingdom Delegation: Maj. Gen. Grove-White and Berkeley Gage, a member of the British Foreign Office.
  3. He was succeeded shortly by Commodore A. W. Clarke.
  4. He was succeeded shortly by Air Vice-Marshal H. P. Willock.
  5. Minister, Adviser on Far Eastern Affairs, British Embassy in the United States.
