897. The press accounts of the May Day parades throughout the Soviet Union emphasize the new Soviet artillery and aircraft. The usual figures of the numbers of airplanes taking part in the demonstrations are omitted. Timoshenko’s41 speech in the Red Square, which is published today, emphasized the desire of the Soviet Government for peace and for the improvement of its relations with all nations that likewise desire better relations. Minister of War called for [Page 613] vigilance and the continued strengthening of Soviet economic and military power.
