5. Prime Minister requests me to state Turkish Government has arranged to buy 16 Martin bombers in the United States. Manufacturers are producing four bombers monthly but on account of War Department orders cannot undertake to deliver more than one monthly to Turkey beginning next year. Prime Minister expresses urgent hope that American Government will authorize manufacturers to deliver two bombers monthly to Turkey beginning in August. Knowing as I do that Turkish Government extremely anxious to obtain these deliveries I trust Department may be able to obtain prompt and favorable decision.
