The Consul General at Shanghai (Cunningham) to the Secretary of State

Kuo Min agency, Nanking, reports August 2:
“Ministry of Finance having received report from Inspector General of Customs that a remittance of Shanghai taels 843,675.44 has been received from Dairen branch of Yokohama Specie Bank representing [Page 192] about one-third of the customs revenue detained before the seizure of the Manchurian customs, the Japanese portion of the Boxer Indemnity held in suspense in the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank has been released.”
Inspectorate General confirms correctness of the foregoing.
