File No. 812.00/11564.

The Secretary of State to Chargé O’Shaughnessy.

[Telegram.]

768. Say to General Huerta that we are informed that his forces contemplate destruction of railroads from Vera Cruz. We hope that this is not true. As the roads to Vera Cruz are the outlet for foreigners in the interior this Government might feel it its duty to take [Page 479] means to prevent interruption of railroad communication between the capital and the seacoast.

While there is no excitement here and no apparent danger to Mexican representative we will as a precaution furnish a guard to Mexican Embassy here.
