Sir: Referring to Mr. Hicks’s No. 425, of September 16, 1892, and previous correspondence in regard to the claim of the Hydrographic Commission of the Amazon against Peru, the justice of which has been acknowledged by the Peruvian Government, I inclose a copy of a letter^* from Mr. William Shands, executor of one of the claimants, urging that the claim may be pressed to a conclusion.

You will ascertain whether there is any prospect of obtaining its payment.
