Mr. Uhl to Mr. Lazo Arriaga.
Washington, May 25, 1895.
Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 20th instant, accompanied by a copy of the treaty concluded at the City of Mexico on April 1, 1895, between the Governments of Guatemala and Mexico in settlement of their recent boundary dispute, and in which, by direction of your Government, you convey an expression of its thanks for the friendly interest manifested by the Government of the United States with a view of preventing the continuation of a serious conflict between two neighboring nations.
I am happy, in reply, to express the gratification of the President, to whom I have made known the contents of your note, that a peaceable settlement of the differences that existed between the two Governments, alike honorable to both, has thus been assured.
Thanking you for the copy of the treaty, I take this occasion to renew, etc.,
