Sir: Your dispatch No. 205, of the 12th ultimo, touching the plan proposed by the Turkish minister of public instruction for preventing future seizures of books of the American Bible Society, by affixing a seal or stamp to them, has been received.

Your note to the minister of foreign affairs upon the subject is approved, the grounds upon which you base your present protest being concurred in by the Department, and it is conceived to be essential that you should, as your note indicates, receive more definite information in relation to the proposed measure before finally giving your assent thereto.
