Sir: I have the honor to inclose to you herewith a copy and translation of a note from the Italian ministry of foreign affairs in which the royal Government of Italy expresses its sincere gratitude towards the President and the people of the United States for their sympathy for the victims of the catastrophe of Ischia.

Illustrious Sir: I received your esteemed note of the 20rh instant, with which you had the kindness to make known to me the deep sympathy of the President, and of the people of the United of America, for the relatives of those who perished in the catastrophe on the island of Ischia.

In thanking you for this communication, I beg you to express to the President, and to the people of the United States, the sincere gratitude of the royal Government for the sympathy shown by them for the victims of the disaster that has desolated the island of Ischia.
