Sir: Acknowledging the receipt of your No. 479 of the 12th ultimo, inclosing a copy of further correspondence concerning the removal of the remains of John Howard Payne from Tunis to this capital, I have to request you, in thanking Lord Granville for his action in reference to the matter, at the same time to ask him to convey to Mr. Reade, Her Britannic Majesty’s consul at Tunis, an expression of the high appreciation this Department has of the energetic and efficient measures adopted by the latter for carrying out the wishes of this Government in the premises.
