My Lord: In conformity with the orders received from my government, I have the honor of inclosing herewith a check drawn with this day’s date upon Messrs. Frederick Huth & Co., of this city, to the order of your excellency as principal secretary of state for foreign affairs, for the sum of £6,700 sterling, agreed upon for the settlement of the affair of the steamer Virginius.
I beg that your excellency will be pleased to acknowledge the receipt of the said sum.
