Sir. Referring to your dispatch No. 97, of the 21st ultimo, on the subject of the exploration of the Nicaraguan Isthmus, with a view to the construction of an interoceanic canal, I have to inform you that an expedition for that purpose has been ordered by this Government, and that a vessel may be expected in Nicaragua in a few weeks, to begin the survey. I take this occasion to acknowledge the receipt of your dispatch No. 96, of the 11th ultimo.
