Monrovia, Liberia, Jan. 24, 1872. (Received Feb. 27.)
Sir: I have the honor to acquaint the Department with the fact that Hon. J. J. Roberts was inaugurated President of the republic of Liberia on the 1st day of January, 1872. The term of office for the President is two years, and this is the fifth time that his excellency President Roberts has been elected President of Liberia. The occasion seemed one of general interest; quietude prevailed; persons from all sections of the country were present. Having been unable to procure a manuscript copy of the President’s inaugural address, I am forced to forward by this mail printed copies thereof.
