No. 120.
Mr. Wing to Mr. Fish.
Quito, Ecuador, April 2, 1872. (Received May 18.)
Sir: I have recently received many gratifying proofs of the warm feeling existing here toward our Government, in all circles.
President Moreno and his ministers have been especially pleased with the uniform kindness and courtesy which Minister Flores has received from President Grant and your excellency.
I think I may truly say that our Government does not stand more highly and affectionately in the estimation of any people than it does among the Ecuadorians to-day.
Public sentiment favors us, and Americans are being employed in almost all the walks of industry and improvement. This state of affairs has resulted during the past two or three years, and is in marked contrast to the former prestige of our Government and people here.
