Sir: I have to inclose to you a copy of a communication received from T. W. Scott, consul at Matainoras, in reference to the seizure of an amount of gold coin by the custom-house authorities at that port, belonging to Dr. W. L. Huchinson. a citizen of the United States.

You are instructed to make an investigation of this case and report to this department.
